Social Media and your privacy is a subject that is hot in the news now. Watch this video that I just shot on location in Boston, Massachusetts on the campus of Harvard Business School. This is where Facebook originated and from here, I have some ideas that can help.
I share some practical ideas on how you should operate not only with Facebook but with whatever the “new shiny object of the week” happens to be. The few minutes you invest watching this fun video can help you a lot in the future.
Please let me know your ideas and comments (below). I look forward to hearing from you.

Provocative questions, Terry–as your clients and subscribers have grown to expect.
As you know, I’m one of those professional speakers you referred to. And yes, I want thousands of Social Media followers to know me, both professionally and personally. So I provide informal pix from lunch meetings, vacation trips, and other fun outings.
Here’s the guideline I recommend for deciding what to post on Facebook or anywhere else: Be absolutely certain that everything you disclose about yourself personally is consistent with–and strongly supports–the professional image you want to portray.
Emerson said it so well: “What you are speaks so loudly, I cannot hear a word you say.”
Truly, one distasteful photo could easily destroy years of professional integrity and credibility you have been building. Help people get to know you personally, for sure–yet always measure your potential postings by whether they uphold your carefully crafted professional bearing.
