Susan RoAne is the best-selling author of several books on Networking, How to Work a Room and on how to connect with others. In fact, she is an inspiration to me and much of what I’ve done with Relationship Marketing and R-Commerce.
So you can imagine the treat I had the other day when she was in town visiting and we got together. Well, I wanted to capture some of the wisdom of this wonderful lady and share it with you. This short (4:46) video is the treat for you.
In this video Susan talks about real networking and how it contrasts with people who want to “pick your brain” (I detest that phrase!). Watch this fun video and learn some valuable lessons that can help you. If you like it, drop her an email and let her know. Susan@SusanRoAne.com.
I look forward to hearing any comments you have on the posts below.
Enjoy!

Hi Terry, thanks for sharing this great video
Great interview Terry! I have really enjoyed Susan’s book on Networking – How to Work a Room. I recommend it to many of my clients that want to improve their networking skills.
I loved Susan’s point that “Face to Face” contact is and always will be a very important part of relationship development. I can’t wait to get a copy of her new book.
Thanks a lot for a power-packed quick video with great tips we can use today!

Yes, Linda, the food pantries are an excellent way to say “thank you” to someone by helping a needy group. Value for Value living can be demonstrated in a variety of helpful and fun ways! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you both for reminding us that our brains are not to be picked like a scavanger bird on a carcass.
I especially appreciated Susan’s comments about the food pantries in our community.
Thanx, Niki! Yes, Susan is terrific. Thank you for stopping by and saying hello!

That gentleman was very wise, Eric. And so was your father. Good advice is worth paying for — one way or another. Always good to hear from you, Eric. Thanx for stopping by and commenting! Terry
You are right, Margaret. Susan’s advice about adding value makes a lot of sense and she does it regularly. Thank you for stopping by to visit. Terry
Thanks Terry & Susan,
It was very good content. I remember working for my father as a youth, and a gentleman stopped by and spoke with my father for hours. When they were finished, the gentleman tossed me his credit card and said, “Charge me $X for you father’s time. I learned more from this man [my father] in two or three hours, than I did from a room full of engineers yesterday in eight hours.” It was a good lesson, and it taught me never to give away too much “free advice” because there is value in knowledge…..obviously my student loan providers thing so too! :^)
Terry,
What a great interview. I know that all of us have experienced people wanting to “pick your brain” more than once. I love Susan’s advice on how to add value when talking with a friend who provides you assistance.
Thank you so much for sharing this valuable information.
Margaret
