Business-Building Action from Terry Brock
Alright already! It’s a New Year and we’ve read way too many “How to be successful in the New Year” articles, podcasts, and videos. Many of these are very good, however, some tend to be just a repetition of what we’ve already heard many times before.
Let’s make 2015 a different year. You know, I feel extraordinarily sanguine about this year. It seems like there’s going to be some very good things happen. No, I’m not making predictions. However, I believe that the opportunities that await us this year are nothing short of incredible.
As you get the year started, here are a few tips that I want to share with you that have helped me and perhaps they can assist you as well.
#1 – Focus On What’s Most Important For You
There will be lots of competing forces vying to get your attention. Many of these are good, but some can take time away from what is best for you. It is most important to sit down and think about what are your solid A+ activities and not focus on the B+, B-, or worse yet, C+ or below priorities. Be clear about what your intentions are. Be clear about your purpose.
#2 – Write & Review
There’s something almost magical that happens when you write down your goals. By “writing” today we mean a lot more than just picking up a pen and writing on paper. The concept of “writing” can mean typing on the keyboard. Today for many of us it means dictating through tools like Siri and dictation that is built into our computers. It is important to have a record of your thoughts now so that you can follow up and review them later. This is critical to achieving goals you want. Just writing down a lofty goal is a wasted exercise unless they are backed up with accountability and action.
#3 – Forget Resolutions – Make Commitments!
This flows from the proper way to review. Don’t just make nice sounding resolutions. Don’t make things that just sound good and make you feel good for a moment but then I never accomplished. Make a commitment. Commitment means you are willing to pay the price in terms of TME — time, money, and effort.
I wish you much success for 2015. I really do feel that this year is going to be exceptionally good and I want the best for you. Thank you very much for reading this and please pass this along to others so that they can benefit from it as well. We want to help people and if you believe this message can help them, please share it with your contacts. I know that I will appreciate it and I believe they will too.
Bonus Section
As a special gift to you I’m going to give you an extra bonus right now. I want you to focus on the technologies this year keeping your eyes open for ways they can help you. I’m heading off to the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas where I’ll be with about 150,000 of my closest friends! For years I called it “the land of gizmos, gadgets, and geeks galore!”
Well there’s some technologies that I’m hearing about and will follow up with as I cover the event for Business Journals. Here are a few I plan to follow. Keep an eye on these developing technologies.
The Internet of Things (IoT)
This awkwardly phrased term is also referred to as M2M or machine to machine. It means that you have computers and chips implanted in machinery that monitor how systems are functioning. One of the most commonly recognized is automatic sensors that are built into cars to notify drivers when the oil is low, when tires decrease in pressure, when maintenance is due, or other needed areas. This is growing fast and can make life a lot better for us human beings as machines take on more responsibilities.
3D Printing
This technology is revolutionizing the way manufacturing is done. It is getting easier to do and more cost-effective. While at the Consumer Electronic Show, I plan to cover several companies that are developing new breakthrough technologies in this area. Stay tuned!
Commercial Drones
We hear about what is happening in the military for destructive purposes. When we look at what is being done for commercial use and free market exchange, it gets much better. Stay tuned on this one as we see opportunities for drones to deliver packages, help with rescue efforts, monitor agriculture crops, give more descriptive real estate pictures, and a lot more.
Wearable Technologies
This one is particularly exciting for me. We’ve seen watches monitor heart rates, the number of steps taken, the number flights taken, and more. We’ll be monitoring this to see what benefits await for you.
Who Knows What?
This is the most exciting area for me! Many other possibilities that are going to happen and I am flat out excited to find out what’s happening. Stay tuned as Gina Carr and I visit this year’s magnificent event of enterprise, technology, and business opportunities. It’s called the Consumer Electronic Show and you get to be part of it here with me.
2015 promises to be a great year ahead for all of us. Let’s work together on this and make it the best year yet for us and for those close to us. I wish you enormous success this year in every area of your life.
Now, I’m off to the Consumer Electronics Show!
All the best,
Terry
