Business-Building Action from Terry Brock
Social Media is creating more change in business than we even dreamed it would. Yes, for the past few years you’ve heard the conferences where they had lecutures on it. Yes, you’ve seen the many articles in business literature about it. And yes, you’ve even heard of those around you using it.
But today it is different.
You know that you have to embrace and use this or you are WAY behind — in a serious, bad–wrong way! You’re in major trouble today if you don’t know about — and use — SoMe in a regular, consistent way to build your business and your personal brand. (And yes, SoMe is the cool way to abbreviate “Social Media”)
So, what can you do to build your SoMe presence? Here are Three Key Principles that can help move you into this powerful world today.
- Acknowledge Its Importance Now. We are way beyond the time when serious business people could laugh at or question in the importance of SoMe. This is no longer just about “my cat is sleeping.” It is no longer just for those wacky Harvard kids playing with “the facebook” in their dorm rooms. Today this is a multi-billion dollar phenomenon that is changing business and the political landscape.
- Splash Around In It. A good way to get to know SoMe is to wade into it — even slowly. Get a Twitter account and follow key people you know and/or admire. Use the List feature to select what you’ll monitor in your industry and areas of interest. Get a Facebook account and begin adding your friends. For business, get on LinkedIn and learn about groups that are available to help you build your business.
- Get The Training You Need. There is a lot to know about SoMe and it can be overwhelming. It is also ever-changing. As I write this, Facebook has made some major changes this week to how you can use it for your business page. You’ve got to have a source to keep current. Notice there are no hard-cover books on social media (not that I know about). That would be silly. Hey, even the soft cover books are quickly outdated with the weekly changes. You have to embrace online learning. You also have to have a strong network of people you can turn to for help. Get into the right groups. Get to know the right people. Hire the right coaches to help you. You can’t do SoMe alone so prepare now to get the resources you need around you
Bonus: Visit www.TerryBrock.com for some updated resources that help you learn about training opportunities from a variety of sources to enhance your skills on SoMe. This is a way many people stay up-to-date on the important changes in SoMe.
The good news is that you are going to find it not only rewarding from a business sense (more business coming your way and building your bottom line), but this SoMe stuff is really fun! It is like having access to a buch of wonderful people world-wide who think like you — and you get to be with them as often as you want. On top of that this is building your bottom-line regularly.
Yes, SoMe is changing our world and the world of business. Embrace it and learn about it. You will be able to position yourself and your business for even greater opportunities in the future.
See you on Facebook, Twitter, LInkedIn and YouTube!
