Business-Building Action from Terry Brock
Connecting with people in a real, genuine, human way is most important in business and life. When you look at very successful people, you discover they have connections with people in a profoundly personal way. They know how to understand what’s really happening. Highly successful leaders are really part psychologist and part business person.
To do relationship marketing well, you need to have the right tools. Many times people ask me in my seminars what tools I use. I use many, but here are some of my favorites. I would love to hear from you those you’re using.
Here are some of the tools I have found beneficial in Relationship Marketing:
1. My Cell Phone. Years ago I found that as I would hang around very successful people, multimillionaires many of them, they had a habit of talking to people regularly throughout the day. As mobile phones became more prominent, they would always be seen with at least one, sometimes two, cell phones so they can connect with important people. In an age of way too much email, social media, texting, and other devices, a live human voice can make the difference. Often a personal one-on-one phone conversation means a lot. There is something about the human voice that resonates in our soul for connection. Use this connection and take advantage of that unlimited talking feature you have on your mobile phone!
2. Facebook. It seems popular today to deride social media and how much time it takes. I find using social media to be a delightful, refreshing way to connect with people who mean a lot to me. Yes, Facebook has to be handled in the right way. When we’re in business, we must be in business. But I look at it much like going to a business luncheon and seeing friends along the way where you say hello, you wave to them across the restaurant, and sometimes you have a very brief communication to catch up. This is the way life works. Facebook is part of life today. Get used to it.
3. EyeJot. EyeJot is a tool that gives you the ability to send a video email to someone from your cell phone, your tablet, and/or your laptop
computer and desktop. Without a doubt, it is the single best marketing tool I have seen in the last 30 years. I use it on a regular basis to humanize communication and to increase its efficacy. Using video is a much more natural way to connect with another human being. If you haven’t used this tool yet, take advantage of it.
4. Amazon.com People might wonder how you could use Amazon.com for marketing. I find by using Amazon.com, and their Amazon Prime program, it gives me the ability to connect with people and send a meaningful gift like a book or something else that is very important. Relationship marketing is about touching people in a profoundly important way that is favorable to them. Sending a gift to them that is a valuable resource can help you stand out in their mind as someone they want to do business with and know better.
5. A Handwritten Postcard Remember these? I’m talking about the old-fashioned, hand-written postcards where you send a warm, personal note to someone. In an age of so much technology (and I love technology!), having a human touch through the written word with your own hand writing matters a lot. Besides, if everyone is sending an email and you were the one who stands out with a postcard, you will be remembered much more favorably.
So what tools have you found to be most useful in forging, building, and maintaining quality relationships? Leave a note here and/or please send me a tweet. This way you will benefit yourself and others.
Remember Relationship Marketing is not about the E-Commerce (Electronics); it is about the R-Commerce (Relationships).
All the best,
Terry
