5 Steps to “Hard Fork” Your Life

23200694 - time for change

Business-Building Action from Terry Brock

Sometimes your life needs to radically change and turn around. You need to forget the “yuck” of the past and embrace a newer, better life. This is similar to what is talked about in the world of cryptocurrencies with a “hard fork” (or also hardfork).

According to Investopedia, a hard fork is defined as:

[A] hard fork is a permanent divergence from the previous version of the blockchain, and nodes running previous versions will no longer be accepted by the newest version. This essentially creates a fork in the blockchain, one path which follows the new, upgraded blockchain, and one path which continues along the old path. Generally, after a short period of time, those on the old chain will realize that their version of the blockchain is outdated or irrelevant and quickly upgrade to the latest version.

You can have a new beginning any time you want.

Recently I was talking to a friend who realized she needed to change major parts of her life. I suggested it was like doing a hard fork in cryptocurrencies. The more I think about it, the more I see the metaphor and the similarities. Sometimes you need a complete break with the past and a new beginning.

There’s an old saying that I heard long ago when I was speaking to a group in Miami, Florida. “You can have a new beginning any time you want.” I love that!

Maybe you can relate. Are you experiencing a situation that is harming you? Are you in a relationship that needs to change or be abandoned? Do you need to dramatically change your health? How about your financial situation? Does it need to change?

Here are some steps that have helped others as I’ve seen in the coaching I do. As I speak around the world and coach individuals I see that certain pattern changes can bring about a decisive improvement.

Steps to Hard Fork Your Life:
#1 – Identify the Problem. Here’s where you have to be ruthless with yourself. Show no mercy by being brutally honest with yourself as you examine what is really wrong. Don’t beat yourself up, this is not the time for attempts at punishment or even correction (not yet, anyway). You need to know exactly what it going wrong and see where you are missing your goals.

#2 – Envision the future you want. To make any hard fork work with all cryptocurrencies you have to decide what you want to happen. This starts by envisioning the best of what you want to be. Lay out your vision of the changes you want. What future do you want in your life? Often this helps if you can envision it for a specific area first and what your ideal would be.

Books and online learning are great resources to do that hard fork for your life

#3 – Determine the Resources You Need and Get Them. There are many resources available many which are low or no cost. It has been my experience, and that of millions of others, that books are a vital resource to improve your life. Find great books that have helped others in key areas of life where you want to improve. Read and study them. Devour them. Also don’t forget the “University of YouTube” for growth. YouTube videos can provide much needed educational and inspirational material. I like to have a regular diet of good quality, highly educational videos from YouTube on a regular basis. Finally, don’t forget the importance of the right mentors and coaches to help you (vital). People who succeed regularly tap into the knowledge and experience of others who can help them.

#4 – Lay out the plan of action. Once you have studied and put in the time, money, and effort to achieve what you need, you need a plan. Don’t try to “wing it” and make it up as you go. Work with your mentor or coach to get a realistic plan of action that will help you achieve your goals. Write it down and go over it in detail. Be tough on yourself here. The late, great Zig Ziglar said it well when he said, “The tougher you are on yourself, the easier life will be on you. The easier you are on yourself, the tougher life will be on you.” Make it work.

#5 – Do it! Steps 1-4 are so alluring and easy. Often you’ll think you are done. Don’t let the first four steps lull you into sleep thinking that you have accomplished it already. Without step number five the rest is just daydreaming. Don’t get me wrong. Daydreaming can be, and often is, very good. It can get you moving in the right direction. But you have got to implement. You have got to take action. Without executive of the first four steps, you’ve wasted your time.

These five steps are important to get your life turned around. If you want to hard fork your life you have to be willing to pay the price. Be willing to put it in the time, money, and energy that is necessary to bring about any decisive change.

As I work with clients and I am coaching around the world, I find those who are willing to pay the price and put in the time, money, and energy to get it done are the most successful. Many just wish for success and aren’t willing to pay the price. Make sure you are one of those who succeed and accomplish your goal. The hard fork of your life will take time, money, and energy — but it is well worth it.

This is your life. You don’t have forever. Work on the five steps cited above and let me know if you have further questions on how to make it happen. Leave your questions below so that I can help you and others will be able to see it and can provide ideas themselves.

Achieve your success now. I really look forward to hearing from you.

All the best!
