5 ways to keep relationships refreshed and new

Two Business Colleagues Sitting Around Boardroom Table Having Informal Discussion

Business is about relationships.

Those who are most successful in business know that establishing, building and maintaining relationships is vital.

Much is written about beginning the process, but how do we keep those relationships going which are most important? This is an important part of relationship marketing.

Here are five ways you can keep those important relationships thriving in business for mutual benefit:

Relationship Reality No. 1

Remember that relationships are constantly in change. One of the greatest dangers that salespeople face is when they assume that because a relationship was good a while back, it will stay that way.

“Oh I know Bob and he loves us,” can be fatal words to a business relationship.

What you might not know is that Bob wasn’t pleased with the last three orders, he ran into your competition, and Bob is now considering switching from you to them. What was once is not always what is or will be.

If you’re ever in a situation where you have a tendency to sit back and relax, taking it easy, be careful. That is like resting in a nice, warm bathtub of water. It might seem relaxing and you might want to stay there. If you stay there too long all you will get is wrinkled skin! Get up. Get out of the tub. Dry off and get moving!

Relationship Reality No. 2

Make it a daily (yes, daily) activity to stay in touch with important people. Don’t just try to sell them your stuff. Instead, find out how they’re doing.

Touch base to make sure things are going well. Find out what might be on their mind concerning challenges. Based on what you learn, find ways to help them, not just with your products and services, but in whatever way possible. Connect them with your network. That way you can help many people.
