Marketing principles still retain time-honored traits. The principles of engaging with buyers, helping them and providing value will remain always.
Yet today, I’m hearing from many as I travel around the world that we are changing at an increasing rate of speed.
To use a calculus expression, “Things are increasing at an increasing rate.”
Here are some hot marketing trends I’m hearing from many decision makers around the world:
1. Mobile becoming more important
We’ve heard this for several years now in marketing trends, but the pace seems to be quickening. Mobile has now passed the tipping point of being the preferred way consumers access data. Smart salespeople and marketers should plan and act accordingly.
2. Transparency
You’ve got to be real today more than ever. That means being there as a person first. Think about Klout. In our book, Klout Matters, we talked extensively about the importance of engagement. This is what consumers want today. Success in business is about engagement, not a score. Consider using Periscope or Google+ Hangouts to be in front of key people regularly. Leverage technologies like these to connect in real-time with customers.
3. Freemium to premium
We are swamped with an overload of information. Because of the “flooding,” your customers are confused as to which way to go. They need to know you as a resource. Start with free. Give information to help them make better decisions. Think blogs. Think podcasts. Think Google+ Hangouts. Once they know and like you, they can begin to trust you. From there they will be delighted to buy from you.
