7 Principles for Using Speed as a Competitive Advantage

Do you want an advantage that sets you apart from the competition?

Then learn how to use speed to outpace competitors. Learning how to use speed as a competitive advantage is imperative today. Here are some principles that can help you succeed over the competition:

  1. Be willing to try and fail rapidly
I’ve been a speaker about technology for many years. As I speak to executives and other decision makers around the world, I’ve seen many times that those who can fail fast do better. I’ve found that I usually have to try a new technology a few — sometimes several— times before I finally get it.
Those who succeed are willing to pay the price to achieve success. Don’t do something that creates failure on a massive, harmful-to-people scale. Plan your experiments in learning so that if you fail, which you will, the costs are minimized and controlled. Learn from those failures and setbacks. They are often your best teacher. After failing a few times — and learning each time — you will be able to succeed where others don’t.
  2. Know how to use your go-to tools
It will take some time, money and energy to learn how to use the right tools. However, this will pay off very well for you when the time comes. Take time to learn how to use the right tools. Get the help you need.
  3. Do it now
    W. Clement Stone was a great success in the area of insurance and personal development. He would use the phrase, “Do it now” to encourage those around him to stop fiddling around and take results-generating action. When you’re in that mode of wondering if you should do something, use his phrase to motivate yourself and get the work done.
