I love the benefits of connecting with friends and colleagues from around the world on Facebook. When I’m in a mood to relax, it makes for a nice social diversion.
But sometimes I’ve just got to “command-W” (Cmd+W) Facebook. This keyboard command on my MacBook Pro closes the tab. That would be control-W (Ctrl+W) for Windows users. You close a tab and end an activity with this keyboard combination.
When important tasks are pressing and need to be completed, you have to eliminate that which is too tempting and distracting from other, more productive tasks. You’ve got to do that with other areas and focus on what is most important at that time.
Yes, you can go back later and see what all your friends are doing, see the silly pictures and watch the silly videos of cats, dogs and other animals, and yes, even read the obnoxious political rants (well, sometimes). But focus on what is necessary. You’ve got to command-W Facebook now and then.
All about focus
The benefits of focusing on what you need to do and eliminating the other distractions are enormous. This relates to overcoming being overwhelmed. You know that feeling of “I’m swamped” that hits all of us from time to time? It is common in our hyper-busy world today. Successful people focus on the important task at hand and get into the flow of being creative and productive. As you do this, you’ll notice that you are overcoming that overwhelmed feeling.
