When you go to a physical meeting you have the opportunity to meet a lot of people. There’s something special that happens when people get together and see each other in person.
I’m a big fan of video meetings. I use video meetings a lot in business. You might know that I was the Chief Enterprise Blogger for Skype a while back. I love having virtual meetings and we can accomplish a lot that way. However, there is some sort of magic that seems to happen when you meet with people face-to-face in the real world.
This video is about the good the can happen but also the potentially dangerous relationships and relationship experiences that you can encounter in those rare, only-once-in-a-while meetings. I’ve seen it a lot. As a professional speaker in the meetings industry I have met a lot of people —literally thousands, In my experience. In this video I share something that I have not shared before here on video. You’ll want to pay attention to this and use it for your good. It can also hold very dangerous ramifications as well which is why you want to be aware of this.
Thank you so much for joining me and please share this with your community.Leave a comment here and let me know some of the ways that you have experience good or bad in meetings where you’ve encountered certain people. By You leaving a comment if you can help many others to gain from potential situations for them or avoid dangerous errors.
Thank you for joining me and I look forward to hearing from you.

For your convenience here’s a transcript of the video. It’s not perfect, but can help you in retaining this important message:
1
00:00:01.500 –> 00:00:07.740
Hi, this is Terry Brock and I’ve got a principle that I want to share with you that I’ve been thinking about and wanting to bring to you. You might know
2
00:00:07.950 –> 00:00:16.980
But it’s really important for getting a specific advantage in business and in life, and that is the importance of meaningful meetings and how
3
00:00:17.310 –> 00:00:21.060
They are amplified in their ramification. What do I mean by that.
4
00:00:21.420 –> 00:00:30.840
What do you get an example, many of us know that it’s a lot of power comes when you go to physical meetings. I’m talking about you get on the plane or you get in the car and you go to a particular meeting.
5
00:00:31.110 –> 00:00:39.000
You invest your money, your time, your energy to be there. You want to make sure that it goes well. And the biggest part, the best benefit of that.
6
00:00:39.270 –> 00:00:45.450
In those meetings, being in the meetings industry myself for 3637 years now is meeting the people
7
00:00:45.840 –> 00:00:51.480
It is good to hear people on the stage. And hey, as a guy that’s on the stage all the time as a professional speaker.
8
00:00:51.780 –> 00:00:59.940
I enjoy doing that and I know it gives a lot of value. I try to pack a lot of information in there that people can use and it makes it worth their time going coming there.
9
00:01:00.240 –> 00:01:08.580
But the real value give you the inside secret. It’s not with the speakers that are on the stage, necessarily, and that’s coming from a speaker of the state, a
10
00:01:08.880 –> 00:01:13.740
Speaker Hall of Fame and certified speaking professional all that stuff. Yeah, but what matters most.
11
00:01:14.100 –> 00:01:24.660
Is the connections, the people that you’re going to meet and the relationships. And you know what something almost magical happens when you’re in those meetings, it’s important to be aware of when you go in there and it can be extraordinarily good
12
00:01:25.470 –> 00:01:34.830
Or it can be extraordinarily bad. I’ve seen many times through the years, people have told me. You know, I don’t want that person to get the job and they do whatever they can to
13
00:01:35.520 –> 00:01:41.730
Make sure another person that they met or that they know doesn’t do well and I kind of find out, well, why, what happened.
14
00:01:42.000 –> 00:01:49.230
Well, it was a couple years ago, I don’t even remember when or even were but they said this or we were meeting and they did this, or they did that.
15
00:01:49.740 –> 00:01:59.010
When you’re in those meetings, you are seeing someone for a very short period of time might be for just a few minutes to come chance meeting in the hall. It might be over lunch.
16
00:01:59.310 –> 00:02:05.910
Or it might be you’re sitting next to them on the bus ride where you’re going out for an off site visit or something like that, whatever it is, it could be real small
17
00:02:06.240 –> 00:02:17.310
But if it goes really well then you’re going to be inclined to do something favorable for that person. If you’ve seen a number of experiences where you’ve had with that person. You’re going to, hey, I really like that person.
18
00:02:17.670 –> 00:02:21.330
I often have to make decisions in the work that I do as a professional speaker.
19
00:02:21.720 –> 00:02:31.470
On deciding does this person or that person get this particular benefit. It might be a new piece of business. It might be a particular award. It might be an honor. That’s going to be bestowed
20
00:02:32.190 –> 00:02:42.210
And when you come down to it, you’ve got two, maybe three people that you’re looking at. And they’re all good, but you got only choose one and so little bitty things are amplified.
21
00:02:42.570 –> 00:02:47.370
And when you’re with someone, you have a good experience that’s positive but also on the flip side,
22
00:02:47.820 –> 00:02:56.580
If you have a negative experience. Someone might say, hey, I remember them. And you know what they did. They did this thing here that just wasn’t really cool.
23
00:02:56.820 –> 00:03:01.080
And I remember they do that. I’m not going to deal with them, and that might have been only for a few minutes.
24
00:03:01.470 –> 00:03:12.960
And so you see when you’re with them your meetings and your time together is amplified. It’s more than just when you see someone, day in and day out. If you’re seeing someone like in a working environment. And you see them all the time.
25
00:03:13.350 –> 00:03:19.470
You could have a good experience or a bad experience from day to day, and you go, and they had a bad day today. Yeah, wasn’t good.
26
00:03:19.920 –> 00:03:29.550
When you’re in that special meeting the annual event, something like that, your meetings and the meaning of those meetings is amplified. So the advantages.
27
00:03:29.970 –> 00:03:37.830
Be on your best behavior, be aware of that. The aware that what you want to do is you want to put your best foot forward, you want to make sure that what you say what you do.
28
00:03:38.160 –> 00:03:45.360
How you influence that person is really amplified for the good of course if you’re going to meet them and you know you’re going to meet them.
29
00:03:45.660 –> 00:03:52.620
Some pre meeting communication would be good. Send them a video, send them an email, send a text. Hey, looking forward to our meeting. We’re going to meet at the
30
00:03:52.860 –> 00:03:59.820
Restaurant over here at such and such place at this time, etc. That’s good. Then after you’ve seen them, of course, the follow up. Hey, it was great to see you.
31
00:04:00.120 –> 00:04:07.410
And I enjoyed what you had to say about this, by the way, here’s an inside ninja trick the video messages that you can use the tools like loom.
32
00:04:07.710 –> 00:04:14.700
Or zoom give you the ability to connect even more because they see a video they know it’s you. You’re not just sitting out
33
00:04:14.910 –> 00:04:21.840
A form letter or you’re not just doing something that it stores the keystrokes and sends back a message. Hi. It was nice to meet you.
34
00:04:22.020 –> 00:04:27.930
I’m glad that we got a chance to get together. Let’s stay in touch. You know, you could have said that to a bunch of people, but when they see it’s you.
35
00:04:28.200 –> 00:04:35.100
And you’re saying hi there, Bob. It was really good to see a Mary. It was great to see you there at the conference and I enjoyed what you said about data.
36
00:04:35.730 –> 00:04:42.990
They know that you’re a human being and they know you’re paying attention to them. That’s particularly good. So use that video there to strengthen it. So remember,
37
00:04:43.320 –> 00:04:54.030
The meanings of the meetings that you have at various events really have an amplified impression and lasting value for good or for bad make yours. Good.
38
00:04:54.360 –> 00:05:03.990
Be on best behavior do your homework and find ways that you can help the other person find ways to help them reach their need that is going to be the real key. Hey,
39
00:05:04.350 –> 00:05:08.730
