Business-Building Action from Terry Brock
How long do you think a speech should be? I grew up in a tradition of speaking and training so doing all-day or multi-day sessions was the norm. It was a big deal to cut it back to “only” 3 hours or 1.5 hours or less for a convention. However, that is the trend that many professional speakers take as their career develops.
The other day my friend, Michelle Ray, and I were talking about how long a speech should be. She said many meeting planners are asking for shorter and shorter time frames. I believe a lot of this is spurred by TED and TEDx talks that are very popular. I had a TEDx talk recently and it was a very positive experience for me. Talk a look here and learn about how to “Overcome Overwhelmed” http://youtu.be/7pmVRX55Hz8
I put together the following video to address some of the issues and considerations you will want to evaluate. What do you do when you’re given, say 1 hour, but have to cut it to much less? What are the merits of a longer speech, vs. something that is much shorter? What is the most important objective in this consideration?
All these and more are addressed in this short video. If you ever have to give a speech, you want to see this. If you’re a professional speaker, you’ll want to see this.
