Business-Building Action from Terry Brock
The Internet of Things (IoT) is gaining its recognition all the time. When I attended the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, it was one of the top areas discussed throughout the show. It is growing in recognition, but also has a lot of great opportunities for the entrepreneurially -minded hustler today.
As a professional speaker, I speak often about relationship marketing. You’ve probably heard me talk about the importance of building relationships. Through the Internet of Things we’re seeing relationships building among things(!) But ultimately this is helping people to connect with each other more.
So what is this convoluted term? Yes, it does sound a little bit funny. It means that we take sensors and put them in various objects so that they can be connected through the Internet. Usually they’re used in the Cloud. We hear a lot about how consumers will use it, but I’m very interested in how businesses are using these tools.
There are many uses for IoT technologies used in business. One of them would be tracking inventory in a large warehouse. Sensors can be installed so that as supplies dipped below a given level a notice is sent to another location or other sensors which can then issue an order to resupply. When you couple this with commercial drones, the opportunities grow even bigger.
A commercial drone, which could be serving as a security sentry, would be able to send a notice when movement is detected on a driveway or an entry. It could also notice when water is not at a sufficient level or a certain reading is perceived in agriculture for crops in the field. When certain indicators are triggered it could start sensors which will automatically water the field.
The possibilities are only limited by our imagination. Keep an eye on this technology and monitor how it progresses. You will find more and more sensors being used in more and more places to make life better and better for human beings.
On this post I have two short interviews that I did with Steven Brumer. He is with 151Advisors.com located in Alpharetta (Atlanta), Georgia. Get your pen and paper out, or fire up your note taking device of choice, and get ready to take some notes as he shares ideas and ways that the Internet of things is being deployed for business today.
As a bonus, be sure and watch the second video to learn about not only the Internet of Things, but also important concepts on how to sell more and succeed. Steve raised some very good points that every entrepreneur will want to know.
Steve Brumer of 151Advisors.com talks about applications for IoT for retail, distribution and more.
More in-depth on how to make money with IoT. Notice the thinking process Steve Brumer goes through as he talks about one of his clients and what they forget in the marketing and selling process.
I look forward to getting your comments. Please post about this on Facebook or Twitter so that you can share your ideas with the world and we can help others with this information.
All the best,
Terry
