How many hours a week does it really take to get the work done? A recent post in Inc. Magazine’s blog discussed an interesting concept from Sheryl Sandberg. She admitted that she would leave work at 5:30 pm to spend time with her children.
The post went on to say that studies have shown 40 hours per week is the ideal for work and productivity. Is that right?
I don’t know about that. There are times when you need to put in some extra hours to get a project or two done. 40 hours? Nice concept but if you’re an entrepreneur, you have to do more sometimes. What is the appropriate “balance?”
I ride a unicycle. I have since I was a kid and love it. Unicycling gives me freedom to move around on my one-wheel cycle where you couldn’t with a bicycle or other vehicle. Yet, when riding my unicycle, I am continually “off balance.” In doing that process of being off balance a lot, I stay in balance. I know it is paradoxical, but just try riding a unicycle sometime. You’ll get the idea.
So what do you think? How many hours do you put in on an average week for work? How do you balance work and other parts of your life, particularly with family and friends? I’d love to get your comments. You can also send me a tweet on Twitter – @TerryBrock. I look forward to hearing from you.
