Business-Building Action from Terry Brock
In my work as a professional speaker, I’m involved with a lot of conferences and conventions.
Recently, I was the Master of Ceremonies for a big event, and as it goes when you’re Master of Ceremonies, I was pressed for time.
It was lunchtime. I had only a few minutes to grab something to eat (hopefully it would be nutritious) and then I needed to get back to prepare for the afternoon sessions. I was also VERY hungry (I’ve got a feeling you entrepreneurs can relate to this).
There was a restaurant that I had eaten at before which had exceptionally good food, very good prices, and their food was highly nutritious. These are three important categories, so I was proceeding very rapidly to that restaurant. However, when I got there, the line stretched out a long way for those waiting to get in for their own tasty lunch. It looked like the wait would be at least 20 to 30 minutes before I could even place an order.
Very disappointed, I walked a long distance to go to another restaurant nearby where the food was not as good, cost more, and was not as nutritious. I didn’t want to do this, but my responsibilities as Master of Ceremonies dictated that I needed to have at least something resembling food in my stomach as fast as possible before I returned.
Customers don’t like to wait. When business is pressing, time is more critical. Long lines hurt sales.
Business moves fast. When you can move rapidly to solve problems and make your buyers happy, you do much better.
Here are three reasons you need a speedy response system in place:
1. Customers want instant gratification
They are busy. They are busy doing their own hustle and need something fast. If you can deliver quality faster than your competition, they will do business with you even at a higher price.
2. Your competition is always trying to outdo you
Today’s world of information-rich material like Google searches, YouTube training and an abundance of online courses is great for learning. However, the downside of that is that it is also available to your competition. If you’re sleeping, if you’re taking it easy, your competition has the opportunity to learn quickly and implement better systems. He who hesitates is lost.
