Business-Building Action from Terry Brock
Relationship Marketing is all about connecting with people as a genuine, real human being. As a result of meeting people’s needs and providing value you are able to do better business.
This relates to a very important concept that you have heard me talk about called Klout. Klout is a digital measuring stick that analyzes how you’re doing with social media on a variety of networks. This would include the work you’re doing on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and several other key networks.
I find it interesting that there are several key principles that lead to success not only with relationship marketing and Klout, but also in business and life. What do you think of these?
1. It’s About People.
Businesses about working with real, oxygen-breathing people who can have their lives made better because of the quality products and services you have. Never forget that whatever we do in business it is always about helping people in providing value for them.
2. Engagement Matters Most
In the old days people would use the “Spray and Pray” method of advertising. This method was at best a waste of money for many advertisers, and an annoyance and aggravation for those receiving the messages. People don’t like to be “sprayed” upon. Even in the days way before technology and the Internet were even thought of, those sales people who connected with the genuine concerns and needs of others did the best. To succeed in any work, it is imperative that you regularly engage with your community. You will do better with Klout if you engage regularly with people in a value-packed way. When you think about it, this has always been the way to generate more business.
3. Always Provide Value First
Too many times people want to “get together for lunch” without having a clear purpose in mind. Don’t just get together with someone to “do lunch.” It is a waste of TME (Time, Money, Energy). Instead, plan key ways that you can provide serious value for them. This means you’ll study who they are, what their needs are and yes, you’ll look at their presence on social media. You can learn a great deal about someone just by looking at their public information on platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, and noticing what they have been tweeting about on Twitter.
There are many ways that you can use the principles of Klout to connect with people and engage more appropriately in today’s social media world. Our book, Klout Matters: How to Engage Customers, Build Your Digital Influence— and Raise Your Klout Score For Success! will help you get more business. It is really about Relationship Marketing and how it works best in the era of social media.
So, what do you think? I look forward to your feedback. Send me a tweet – @TerryBrock is my Twitter handle – and let me and the world know what is working for you to engage with people and get more business in today’s social media world.
I look forward to hearing from you!
All the best,
Terry
