Linda Swindling, J.D., CSP, is the author of Stop Complainers and Energy Drainers. This is a comprehensive book that not only talks about who these people are, but she lists specific ways to deal with them and stop that bothersome (or worse!) behavior they have.
I love the way she describes what causes this in her book She is able to address what it is like, the problems with these types of people and specific steps you can take to solve the problem at hand, and deal with this type of person.
As an added bonus, which we can all use, she also helps to identify those types of behaviors in ourselves and to stop doing them. This is very helpful if you ever happen to have one of those days when you just aren’t doing what you know is the best you can be. I think we can all relate to that.
This is a book I recommend to prepare you for dealing with others who have those negative traits, and for helping yourself, if you should even have that challenge.
