TED stands for technology, entertainment and design. It is a movement that has given the world a wealth of information, mostly in the famous “18 minutes or less” allowed for presentations (a rare few have gone over the limit).
Recently, I had the honor to speak for the TEDxBocaRaton event, where I had a wonderful experience.
As I thought about what happened to me, I thought of how you could use some of the principles in your life for building business and personal development.
Here are 10 lessons I learned from my TEDx talk:
1. Preparation is not optional
Even though I’m a professional speaker and have traveled around the world, speaking at a TEDx event was different from any other presentation I’ve given. That 18-minute limit means you have to prepare more than ever. From that preparation I was able to cut filler, polish away some rough edges and develop a more tightly organized presentation than I had ever delivered before.
2. Repetition is the mother of learning
I carved my presentation down to much less than 18 minutes and by repeating it over and over — improving with each relentless repetition — I ended up with a much better style and form than when I started.
